No.1  婚礼时间 Timing

可以在留言区和双语君(微信ID:Chinadaily_Mobile)聊聊。

No.2 聘礼 Betrothal gifts

(Betrothal gifts)

双语君(微信ID:Chinadaily_Mobile)就来跟你算一笔。

No.3 红包 Red packet

?

衣着

Dressing

Avoid wearing red since the bride will most likely be wearing red at some stage of the wedding and it will make you seem like you are trying to take the attention away from her.

Generally, you should check with the couple, if you can, to see how formal they want the wedding to be before you buy your dress or suit.

For the ladies, evening gowns or cocktail dresses work fine. Guys, a button-down shirt and long trousers with a pair of nice shoes will do, although you go for a suit and tie if you wish. Just dont come in a shabby T-shirt or jeans and sneakers...

Purple, pink, and peach all symbolize new life and happiness in Chinese culture, so wearing these colors indicates that you are supportive of the marriage, and also helps to bring good luck and happiness to the new couple.

Short dresses should still cover everything - being too flashy or too exposed can be considered impolite. And even if the wedding isn’t particularly formal, you should still make an effort to look nice.

Both white and black symbolize mourning and death in Chinese culture. Wearing these colors is just considered impolite. However, you can get away with wearing black or white accents on your dress.

?

红包

Red Packet

If you’re confused about the gifts, money will be your safest bet.

The amount you choose for a red packet is very personal and subjective. But you should go no lower than your share of the dinner party cost, and no lower than the red pack you received from the same friend at your wedding.

Strive for even numbers containing 6’s, 8’s or 9’s (all auspicious) and avoid 4’s (which sound like death).

Sign the red packet with your name and complete it with a romantic wish. The most popular ones are:

May you respect each other like honored guests.

May you forever be of one mind.

May you always see heart to heart.

May fragrant flowers bloom and full moon shine over your life together.

Wishing you one hundred years of good companionship.

May you live together until your hair turns white with old age.

Wish you two bathe in the river of love forever.

?

Wedding Banquet

Come with an empty stomach, as you are expected to have at least all 8 dishes during the dinner.

Once youve arrived, check in with the guest ushers or, if there arent any, parents of the newlyweds. Congratulate them on the happy occasion and hand over the red packet while youre doing so.

If youre not the type whos comfortable with sitting down for a long time, feel free to walk around and mingle with the relatives and friends.

Follow the Master of Ceremonys lead at all times, especially when he announces the brides arrival and conducts the toast.

You are expected to stay until the end of the dinner a.k.a. after all 8 dishes have been served. It is actually considered impolite to leave in the middle of the reception.

Before leaving, make sure to thank and congratulate the newlyweds, who are usually already at the door to bid farewell to their guests along with their parents.

?

Taboo

Gifts you should avoid include fans (they are pronounced the same way as “disperse” in Chinese which could imply separation), clocks, books, shoes, daisies or chysanthemums (flowers typically given at funerals or given to ancestral graves) and anything in sets of four.

The Chinese people believe in something called qi which is a life force strong in both pregnant women and newlyweds. It is said that the luck arising from the pregnancy could “clash” with the luck from the newlyweds and potentially harm the unborn baby of the newlyweds.

It is believed that if you attend a wedding within 100 days of a passing, it is disrespectful to the deceased and may also bring bad luck to the newlyweds.
